VECD Fogarty Global Health Fellowship Program in Clinical Research

Introduction to the scholarship

The VECD is pleased to invite applications for the Fogarty global health fellowship program for the clinical investigators studying the various diseases and conditions. The fellowship program is for about one year clinical research program for pre and post doctoral candidates at one of the affiliated international training sites. The applicants must be the citizens of USA and the citizens of low or middle income countries. The countries should have the support of VECD institution, including the committed mentors in both the US and the LMIC countries. The online applications will have to be submitted by the deadline. 

The Fogarty global health fellowship program represents new opportunities in the global health research training. The global health fellowship program is one year clinical research training program for pre and post doctoral candidates. It is supported by the Fogarty International centre and many other collaborating institutes and centres at the national institutes of health. 

Scholarship Provider

The scholarship is supported by the Fogarty International centre and several other collaborating institutes and centres of the National institutes of health (NIH). 

Scholarship duration

The fellowship will be supported for the period of eleven months. Two fellowships are awarded under the scheme. 

Scholarship coverage

The fellowship covers the following. 

1.       The applicant will be provided with the eleven month training–stipend.

2.       The applicant will be provided with the Health insurance.

3.       The applicant will receive modest research training costs.

4.       Round trip travel costs to and fro from the fellowship site.

5.       The applicants will be provided by the orientation/training with the national institutes of the health. It will be for five days.

6.       The typical fellowship for the scholarship begins by the cycle of July. The fellows selected will be required to spend at least 10 months of their assigned LMIC centre. 

Eligibility criteria

The candidate has to satisfy the following eligibility criteria to avail the fellowship.

1.       The applicant must be postdoctoral trainees within three years of the last major training.

2.       The applicant must be advanced doctoral students and should be enrolled in health related doctoral programs.

3.       The applicants must be citizens of the United States or its territories.

Selection

The candidate has to satisfy the following eligibility criteria.

1.       The candidate’s application requires to be relevant to the GHF program objectives.

2.       Synergy with the VECD’s site research objectives.

3.       The candidates career objectives and the statements along with the educational background demonstrating success throughout the trainee ship.  

4.       The candidate’s engagement with the appropriate VECD mentors and letters of support from the mentors and the home institution.
