PU Chandigarh Research Fellowship in Biophysics

Scholarship/Fellowship Details

The department of Physics, Panjab University (PU) is pleased to invite applications for the Research fellowship award from the candidates who are desirous of pursuing a PhD degree in Biophysics. The BSR research scheme for meritorious candidate (RFMS) of UGC is offering the fellowships in Bio-physics.

Eligibility criteria

The candidate should satisfy the following eligibility criteria for the award of the fellowship amount.

1.       The candidate should have secured a minimum of 55 marks in percentage in the degree of M.Sc in Biophysics to be eligible for the award of the fellowship.

2.       The candidate should have secured a qualification marks either in the GATE or in the CSIR-UGC NET examination.

3.       The enrolment for the PhD degree is also important for the candidate to be eligible for the award of the fellowship. Otherwise, the candidate should also take up the entrance test for the enrolment of the PhD. This test score (qualifying test score) is a criterion for the eligibility of the Research fellowship.

Number of scholarships

There are about five research fellowships for the candidates who wish to take up PhD in Biophysics.

Fellowship amount

The fellowship amount given to the research fellow candidates by the UGC is 14,000 per month. The fellowship award has also a provision of a contingency grant of Rs.12,000 per annum  initially for the first year which may also be extended if the fellowship is being extended.  

Duration of the fellowship

The duration of the fellowship is initially for one year. If the research work done by the research fellows is satisfactory, then the fellowship may get extended. The fellowship extension thus depends on many factors.

How to apply

The candidates should apply for the fellowship in the prescribed format and have to be sent to the Chairperson, Department of Bio -Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Before sending the application, the candidate has to check whether he/she satisfies the eligibility criteria.

Selection Procedure

The selection of the candidate depends entirely on the candidate’s performance in the NET or the qualifying entrance test and the marks obtained in M.Sc in Biophysics. The interview process is then conducted to understand the knowledge and the research aptitude of the candidate.  

Last date for the submission of the application

The last date for the submission of the application forms for the award of research fellowships is on or before the date of 30^th November, 2014. The candidates shortlisted and eligible for the fellowship will be notified about the interview process.
