TWAS-DBT Postgraduate Fellowship Programme in Biotechnology, India

The applications are invited for the TWAS-DBT postgraduate fellowship Programme in Biotechnology, India which is available for the foreign scholars to pursue postgraduate research fellowships leading them towards the PhD. The fellowships are provided by the department of biotechnology (DBT) by the Ministry of Science and Technology in India. The fellowships can be taken at any of the DBT specified biotechnological institutions in India by the foreign scholar.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate has to satisfy the following eligibility criteria to avail the above mentioned scholarship.


1.       The applicant must be of age below or maximum of 35 years as on 31st December of the application year.
2.       The applicant must be nationals of a developing country other than India.
3.       The applicant should possess a Master’s degree or equivalent degree in engineering and science.
4.       The applicant should not hold any temporary or permanent visa in India or any other developed country.
5.       The applicant should be an employee in the developed country and should have been assigned a research assignment here.
6.       The applicant should b accepted by the biotechnological institution.

Study subjects

The study subjects for the above mentioned fellowship are given below. The fellowships are provided in the field of biotechnology namely Agricultural Sciences, Structural, Cell and Molecular biology, biological systems, medical and health sciences including neurosciences and chemical sciences. The scho0larships can be taken only at Biotechnological institutions in India.

Course level

The course level for the above mentioned scholarship is at research level.

Scholarship Open for International students

The scholarship is open for the candidates from developing countries other than India. Some of the developing countries are mentioned below. Afghanistan, Nepal, Angola, Argentina, Armenia, Algeria, Bahamas, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, Bhutan, Bolivia, Bosnia, Burma, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African, Republic Chad, Chile, Colombia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Dominican republic, Fiji, Ghana, Georgia, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Kenya, Kazakstaan, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Pakistan, Philipines, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Thailand, Turkey, Uganda, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela, Vietnam, Yemen, Zambia, Zimbabwe etc.

Number of awards

The number of awards for the fellowship is not known.

 Duration of the award

The duration of the TWAS-DBT fellowship is for a period of five years. It can be availed by the eligible candidate at any of the key biotechnological research institutions situated at India.

Scholarship amount

The department of Biotechnology provides a monthly stipend to cover the living costs, health insurance and food costs. The fellows will also receive a house rent allowance. The fellows will not have the foreign currency though.

How to apply

The applications have to be sent to the TWAS along with the acceptance letters from the biotechnological institution and reference letters from the previous employers. The postgraduate programme applications should be sent to the TWAS by email only.

Scholarship application deadline

The fellowship application forms have to be submitted before the last date of 31st August, 2014.
