Dr Manmohan Singh Scholarships for Indian Students in UK

The British Council is offering scholarships for the Indian students to pursue their higher education in the United Kingdom. These scholarships are offered for the doctoral studies of science and technology, economics and social sciences at St. John’s College, University of Cambridge. The applicants should have a master’s degree from one of the reputed Indian University with a first class degree in both UG and PG in the relevant subject/fields. All the applications are to be submitted before the deadline mentioned.

The University of Cambridge has been in strong ties with the Indian nation. Many of the Indian citizens and scientists are part of the Cambridge university alumni. At St. John’s College of the Cambridge University, the then prime minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh had studied and is a graduate and honorary fellow of the University. Dr.Manmohan Singh has been the creator of many great economic reforms propelling India to a new economic high and brought India on to the world stage. Thus the award is named after him.  Many of the Indian students are invited to take part in their study programmes. 

Study subjects 

The awards are meant for the students from India to pursue doctoral research programme studies in the fields of science and technology, economics and social sciences etc.

Scholarship Provider

The scholarship is provided by the British Council.

Eligibility criteria

The candidate has to satisfy the following eligibility criteria.

1.       The applicant should hold a valid Indian passport and be based at India.
2.       The candidate should b below 35 years of age.
3.       The applicant should not have got any previous UK government funding or be exposed to the UK education earlier.
4.       The applicant should hold a master’s degree (post-graduation) with a first class award.
5.       Proof of leadership skills and qualities (can be identified from the personal statements)
6.       The applicant should be keen to pursue doctoral research and should have himself identified a relevant doctoral research degree at the St. John’s College, Cambridge University, UK.
7.       The applicant should be fluent in spoken and written English.
8.       The applicant should be in a position to fulfil all other admission criteria in case laid out by the university.

The scholarship covers the following benefits. All the scholarships are fully funded. 

1.       Academic fees.
2.       Monthly expenses towards living costs
3.       International airfare
4.       UK visa

Notification

The selection outcome will b communicated to the students within a month following an Interview.

How to apply

The applicant should find the doctoral research programme on his own at the university and a supervisor and secure admission.
