GPTS Doctoral Scholarships for European and Asian Students in Germany

The University of Heidelberg under Graduate Programme for transcultural studies is inviting applications for the doctoral scholarships for the European and Asian students. The Graduate Programme for transcultural studies (GPTS) is a program structured to conduct interdisciplinary research environment of the cluster. The university is offering around eight doctoral scholarships to the European and Asian candidates. There have been five rounds of scholarships during spring and summer 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013 so far.

The study subjects for the doctoral scholarships are in the field of transcultural studies. 
 
Scholarship Provider

The University of Heidelberg is offering the doctoral scholarships.  The scholarship can only be taken at Germany. 

Eligibility criteria for the scholarship award

The candidate must be eligible for the doctoral fellowship if they satisfy the following eligibility criteria.

1.     The applicants must hold an M.A degree or equivalent in the field of Humanities and Social studies.
2.     The applicants should have obtained the degreewith an above-average grade (at least 1.7, B+, 2+, “magna cum laude”, or equivalent).
3.     All the documents should be submitted to the university in the languages of English, French, Italian and German. All the other applications can be submitted in certifiedtranslations in English and German.
4.     The applicant’s degree has to demonstrate five years of study at the university level.

Scholarship applicable to

The students of Asia and Europe can apply to these doctoral scholarships. The Asian regions include Nepal, Afghanistan,Bangladesh, China, East Timor, Bahrain, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Syria, Cambodia, India Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Israel,Oman Pakistan, The Philippines, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore ,Taiwan Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Yemen, Brunei, Japan Jordan, Kazakhstan, Korea North, Korea South, Kuwait Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar (Burma). The regions of Europe include the following. Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, (Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta,Austria,  Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom. 

Total number of scholarship awards

Eight doctoral scholarships are being provided by the University of Heidelberg.

Notification

The applicants can expect the notification about these scholarships by the end of April or at the beginning of May. 

How to apply

The applicants have to apply after registration through the online application system of the GPTS. All the guidelines will be provided to the applicant after a successful login. 

The applicant has to provide the following details.

1.     Proof of MA degree with grades
2.     Proof of language skills
3.     An abstract of the research project
4.     About the possible supervisor details
5.     Two references
6.     Letter of intention
