Scholarship details

The Department of Science and Technology, India is offering 25 scholarships for the period 2014/17. The fellowships are applicable to overseas scientists to pursue the research activities as a proof obtained from the R&D outputs for the past five years. The fellowship named ‘Jawaharlal Nehru Science Fellowship’ is offered for a period of 12 months in the time period of three years. 

The department of Science and Technology, India has instituted Jawaharlal Nehru Science fellowships to promote the cutting edge scientific research in centre of excellence of India. Eminent scientists of any nationality desirous of carrying out research in Indian institutions for a period of 12 months in three years of duration would be enabled by this fellowship scheme. The nominations are invited from the heads of academic institutions and research institutions, presidents/fellows of science academies and global leaders in science and technology. 

Study subjects

The Jawaharlal Nehru fellowships are provided to the overseas scientists to learn any of the courses.

The selected candidates should choose their place of research anywhere in India, research theme for pursuing their research, and research collaboration if any is required.

The fellowships are available for pursuing research level of study programmes.

Eligibility criteria

The candidate has to satisfy the below mentioned eligibility criteria to avail the above mentioned scholarship. 

1.       The fellowships are provided and open to overseas candidates with higher academic distinction and achievements.

2.       The candidates along with high academic distinctions should be accompanied by the royal society, US and French academies and their equivalents.

3.       The nominated overseas scientists should be active in the proposed research area as evidenced from the past five years.

Duration of awards

These fellowships are awarded for a period of 12 months during the period of three years mentioned as 2014 to 2017. 

Scholarship coverage/amount

The value of the research fellowship programme is US $100,000. In addition to this value, the candidates will receive aggregated research grant of Rs.5.5 million parts which will be useful to engage two or more research fellows (2 research fellows / one post doctoral fellow) for the project., travel expenditure (both local/international travel) and other contingency expenses to carry out research. The host institution for the research fellows would need to provide the necessary infrastructure, furnished housing and administrative support to the fellow.
